Red Lizard Train tours

No visit to Tunisia is complete without a ride on the legendary Red Lizard train. Built in the late 19th century, this narrow-gauge railway takes you on an exhilarating journey through the spectacular 9-mile-long Seldja Gorge, with its towering walls of red rock.

The Red Lizard has a fascinating history - the train was built to transport phosphate deposits, then used to take the governor of Tunis to his summer palace. Today, the Red Lizard’s famous red cars have been beautifully restored, but the adventure they offer is timeless. Take your window seat and set off through dramatic rocky desert landscapes, dotted with lush green oases. The return journey takes an hour and a half, transporting you through some of Tunisia’s most wonderful rock formations. Do not miss our remarkable Red Lizard train tours.
