Peru holidays & tours

Keen travellers will love Peru holidays. Packed with UNESCO World Heritage sites, archaeological riches and landscapes of astonishing beauty, this incredible country occupies the western shoulder of South America and is one of its most rewarding destinations.

Unsurprisingly, holidays in Peru focus on the relics of the Inca Empire, the pre-Columbian civilisation that conquered many of the lands of the Peruvian, Bolivian and Argentinian Andes during the 12th and 15th centuries. The Incas built scores of mountaintop citadels, many like Machu Picchu, at the centre of their empire, the Cuzco Valley, before their power crumbled in the face of the arriving Spanish in the 16th century.

Highlights of our Peru tours

We’ve crafted our collection of Peru tours to concentrate on its key Inca sites, as well as its grand colonial architecture, spectacular Andean scenery and famous street markets. Explore the fascinating capital of Lima with its fine Spanish buildings, delve into the ancient Inca city of Cuzco, watch for the great Andean Condor wheeling above Colca Canyon and see Arequipa, Peru’s second largest city, ringed by snow-tipped volcanoes.

The jewel in the crown of our Peru holidays, though, has to be Machu Picchu, the jaw-dropping mountaintop ‘Lost City of the Incas’. Plus, you’ll also get the chance to ride the legendary Andean Explorer train en-route to this legendary site and, as a finale to your trip, explore the steamy rainforests of Peru’s stunning Amazon region as well.

Other headliners on our escorted tours of Peru include shopping at its bustling Indian markets, where bowler-hatted women sell hand-knotted woollens, and taking a cruise around beautiful Lake Titicaca to see its pre-Inca ruins and the amazing, floating reed islands of the Uros peoples.

Our holidays in Peru cast the net wider. Head north to Ecuador and its enthralling capital of Quito and perhaps add a cruise to the Galapagos Islands to witness their spectacular wildlife, first charted by Charles Darwin in 1835.

Alternatively, you can experience Peru tours as part of our wider South America tours, seeing the best of Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Bolivia in one memorable holiday. Experience breathtaking Rio de Janeiro, tango-fuelled Buenos Aires, Bolivia’s high-altitude city of La Paz or Santiago - Chile’s little-known yet fascinating capital, which is flanked by the snow-capped Andes.
