Itinerary Map

DAY 1 : UK - New York.

Fly to New York where you will transfer to your hotel for two nights.

DAY 2 : New York City.

On today's sightseeing, see New York City's major attractions, including Broadway, the Empire State Building, Greenwich Village and Trinity Church. The afternoon is free.

DAY 3 : New York City - Philadelphia - Washington DC area.

Head through New Jersey to Philadelphia, the birthplace of the United States. During your free time perhaps visit Independence Hall. Then it's on to Washington DC.

DAY 4 : Washington DC area.

Your local guide points out all the major highlights on this morning's tour, including Capitol Hill, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument and Arlington National Cemetery. The remainder of the day is free.

DAY 5 : Washington DC area - Niagara Falls.

A long, scenic day as you head through Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Travel along the Susquehanna River to Williamsport, the birthplace of Little League baseball. Later cross the Rainbow Bridge into Canada and to Niagara Falls.

DAY 6 : Niagara Falls - Detroit/Dearborn area.

This morning board the Niagara Falls sightseeing cruise for amazing close up views from the base of the falls. Then travel the Niagara Parkway, admiring Ontario's sweeping landscapes of farmlands and vineyards into Michigan. Overnight in the Detroit area, America's traditional automotive centre. Note: The operation of the Niagara Falls sightseeing cruise is subject to favourable weather and/or river conditions. When unfavourable conditions exist, a walking tour through the scenic tunnels will be offered. Last day of operation for the cruise is 24 October 2015.

DAY 7 : Detroit/Dearborn area - Henry Ford Museum - Chicago.

Begin the day with a visit to the Henry Ford Museum, a fascinating visit that includes Presidential Vehicles, Rosa Park's bus and original road signs that lined the highways of years gone by. Arrive in Chicago late afternoon and enjoy a city sightseeing tour of all the major landmarks of the 'Windy City' including the Magnificent Mile and the John Hancock Building.

DAY 8 : Chicago.

Today is a whole day at leisure. Take the opportunity to explore this iconic city. Perhaps this afternoon take an optional cruise on Lake Michigan for stunning cityscapes of Chicago. This evening there is an optional dinner excursion, followed by spectacular views from atop the Willis Tower.

DAY 9 : Chicago - Wisconsin Dells - Minneapolis.

First stop today is pretty Wisconsin Dells and an included boat trip in a unique amphibious vessel. Afterwards, enter Minnesota - the land of 10,000 lakes - driving through St Paul, before reaching your overnight hotel in Minneapolis.

DAY 10 : Minneapolis.

Begin the day with a short city sightseeing tour of the bustling downtown area of Minneapolis. Afterwards arrive at the famous Mall of America in Bloomington, the largest shopping mall in the United States. There will be plenty of time to experience shopping on a different scale. Tonight, why not take an optional dinner cruise and experience the Mississippi River from St Pauls through the Mississippi National Great River Park?

DAY 11 : Minneapolis - Pierre.

Today continue into the rich farmlands of South Dakota, homeland of the great Sioux Indian Nation. A stop in Mitchell to see the Corn Palace, a remarkable Moorish-style building covered with designs of corn outlined with grasses and grain. Overnight in Pierre the State Capital of South Dakota.

DAY 12 : Pierre - Badlands National Park - Mount Rushmore - Keystone.

First a drive through Fort Pierre National Grassland and see the prairie as it once was. Next is Badlands National Park, where 37 million years of wind and water have carved out a remarkably colourful sight. Then head deep into the Black Hills and behold Mount Rushmore, a giant granite monument to four American presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt.

DAY 13 : Keystone - Cody.

Today is a long drive passing through Sheridan, the scene of many fierce battles between the US Cavalry and the Sioux, Cheyenne and Crow Indians. Continue through the beautiful Bighorn Mountains and Bighorn National Forest en route to the overnight stop in Buffalo Bill's frontier town of Cody.

DAY 14 : Cody - Yellowstone National Park.

Travel through the Shoshone National Forest to splendid Yellowstone National Park. Follow the grand loop road to Artist Point with magnificent views of Yellowstone Canyon and the stupendous Lower Falls, nearly twice the height of Niagara Falls. Overnight, in West Yellowstone. Note: Routes and areas visited in Yellowstone are subject to favourable weather and/or road conditions.

DAY 15 : Yellowstone National Park - Teton National Park - Jackson.

This morning return to Yellowstone National and visit the geyser basins with bubbling mud paint pots and the reliable "blow" of Old Faithful, Yellowstone's great geyser and West Thumb geyser basin. Then head south into magnificent Grand Teton National Park, one of America's last preserves of wild solitude. Its 13,770-foot-high ridges are crested with snow most of the year. Stroll along the shores of beautiful glacier-fed Jenny Lake before ending the day in the Wild West town of Jackson with its wooden sidewalks and swing-door saloons.

DAY 16 : Jackson - Salt Lake City.

Today, leave Jackson and drive to Salt Lake City, Utah's vibrant capital. Set on the edge of Great Salt Lake Desert, this center of the Mormon religion is where Brigham Young declared to his followers, "This is the place." An included sightseeing tour shows you the capital of Utah, including Temple Square, the adjacent tabernacle, and the Beehive House.

DAY 17 : Salt Lake City - Bryce Canyon - Cedar City.

Pass through sagebrush landscapes to Bryce Canyon National Park, with its breathtaking sandstone, limestone cliffs and ever-changing colours. Next, through the Dixie National Forest to Cedar City for your overnight stay.

DAY 18 : Cedar City - Zion National Park - Grand Canyon North Rim.

First stop is Zion National Park. Through Kaibab National Forest to the less visited north rim of the Grand Canyon, where you'll marvel at the stunning views of the flame-coloured walls plunging 4,800 feet into the Colorado River. The rest of the day is free.

DAY 19 : Grand Canyon - Las Vegas.

Head to the bright lights and excitement of Las Vegas, where fortune hunters try their luck at the 24-hour gambling tables. The remainder of the day is at leisure.

DAY 20 : Las Vegas.

Today, a whole day to explore the famous Las Vegas strip and casinos of Las Vegas. There will be a choice of optional excursions that you can join or take time to relax during the day before experiencing all that Las Vegas has to offer.

DAY 21 : Las Vegas - Calico Ghost Town - Los Angeles.

Into California today stopping at Calico Ghost Town to relive the wild, tough days when miners struck it rich. Through the Mojave Desert and over the mountains to Los Angeles.

DAY 22 : Los Angeles.

Start the day with a sightseeing tour of the world's 'Capital of Glamour'. Drive to Hollywood, see the footprints of the stars at Mann's Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Bowl. Then on to elegant Beverly Hills followed by a drive down Sunset Strip.

DAY 23 : Los Angeles - UK.

Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in San Francisco.

DAY 24 : Home landing in the UK.

Maximum elevation on this tour is 9,900 ft.
