Your Itinerary
DAY 1: Depart UK.
DAY 2: Arrive Beijing.
On arrival in Beijing you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for three nights. (D)
DAY 3: Beijing.
Enjoy the iconic sights of China's atmospheric capital city today, including Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world, the magnificent Forbidden City, a palace complex that housed successive emperors for over 500 years, and the glorious Summer Palace, a park of lakeside pagodas, ornate pavilions and the marble boat made for Empress Dowager Ci Xi. (B, L, D)
DAY 4: Beijing.
Admire the ornate Temple of Heaven, one of the most iconic and strictly preserved sites in China, built in 1420 during the reign of the Ming Dynasty. Later relax on a rickshaw ride along the city's Hutongs (tiny lanes) before visiting a local family's home. This evening enjoy a famous Peking Duck dinner. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Beijing - Chengde by train.
Take an early morning train ride through rural landscapes to the imperial resort of Chengde, an idyllic mountain town once favoured by 18th century Qing Emperors for its fascinating, rugged landscapes and cool, fresh climate. With its stunning collection of palaces, temples and imperial summer retreats, Chengde is a considered to be one of China's leading scenic spots and was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1994. This afternoon, visit Summer Resort, a former imperial retreat and the largest royal gardens in China, to admire the picturesque pavilions, bridged streams and ornamental ponds of this romantic and serene parkland.
DAY 6: Chengde.
Visit the three outer temples: Temple of Universal Happiness (Pule Si), with its Buddha of Happiness, the serene Lesser Potala Palace (Putozongchen Miao) and the combined Han/Tibetan style Temple of Universal Peace (Puning Si), the only active Lama temple in Chengde. (B, L, D)
DAY 7: Chengde - Jinshanling Great Wall - Beijing - Xian.
Drive to Jinshanling, set amid the fantastic mountainous Luanping County in Hebei Province, to visit the legendary Great Wall. After lunch, drive to Beijing to catch your flight to Xian. (B, L, D)
DAY 8: Xian and Terracotta Warriors.
Today’s visit is sure to be a highlight of your trip. Visit the funeral vault of the first emperor, built in around 250 BC, to marvel at the incredible Terracotta Warriors carved to guard the Imperial Tomb. Nothing will prepare you for this incredible display of 8,000 life-sized, hand-carved clay warriors, chariots and horses. Later, visit the tranquil Wild Goose Pagoda and view Xian's ancient city walls. (B, L, D)
DAY 9: Xian - Beijing.
Enjoy an included visit to the Grand Mosque in the atmospheric Muslim Quarter and Yangling Tomb, the wonderfully preserved burial place of Emperor Liu Qi and his Empress, excavated to reveal 40,000 burial objects, including cavalrymen, pottery figurines, chariots and weapons. This afternoon, fly to Beijing. (B, L, D)
DAY 10: Beijing - UK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in Hong Kong. (B)
