Itinerary Map

DAY 1 : UK - New York.

Fly to New York where you will transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

DAY 2 : New York City - Newport - Plymouth.

Take the New England Thruway via New Haven, home of Yale University and New London, then into the tiny state of Rhode Island to Newport, home of the world famous jazz festival and millionaire mansions. Here visit The Breakers, Cornelius Vanderbilt's magnificent Italian palazzo, before heading north into Massachusetts, and the historic seaside port of Plymouth, where the Pilgrim Fathers landed in the Mayflower in 1620.

DAY 3 : Plymouth.

Begin the day with a visit to Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum of 17th century Plymouth where costumed interpreters portray past residents of the colony. This afternoon you board a cruise boat for an exciting whale-watching expedition with commentary by a local marine biologist. These Atlantic waters are a prime feeding ground for finback and humpback whales, as well as dolphins. Afterwards, you will visit the historic town of Plymouth and Plymouth Rock, the spot where the Pilgrims landed. The evening is at leisure. Note: Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed and cruising is dependent on weather conditions. When weather is unfavorable, a visit to the New Bedford Whaling Museum will be substituted.

DAY 4 : Plymouth - Boston.

This morning you visit the Mayflower II and explore a reproduction of the ship that brought the Pilgrims to the New World. Later head for Boston, the 'Cradle of American Liberty', where the rest of the day is free.

DAY 5 : Boston - Ogunquit.

Boston has numerous impressive landmarks which reflect the role the city has played in the history of the United States. Your included sightseeing tour will take you to many of the major sights, including Beacon Hill, the Old North Church, Boston Common, and the Public Gardens. Afterwards there is time to explore Faneuil Hall before travelling to the picture perfect ocean front village of Ogunquit, a haven for writers and artists. In the evening, there's a chance to sample the delicious local fare on our optional lobster bake excursion.

DAY 6 : Ogunquit - Lake Winnipesaukee cruise - North Conway.

Today marvel at New England's autumn splendour as we head through forests ablaze with colour to Lake Winnipesaukee, one of the region's largest and most beautiful stretches of water. Enjoy a cruise across this island-studded lake aboard the historic MS Mount Washington to the resort of Wolfeboro. Your overnight is in North Conway, with a backdrop of over 700,000 acres of protected White Mountain National Forest.

DAY 7 : North Conway - Montpelier - Burlington.

Travel through glorious rolling countryside and continue across New Hampshire into Vermont, where the birch, oak and maple leaves form a brilliant kaleidoscope of colour. After a stop in Montpelier, there is a visit to a nearby maple syrup farm. The rest of the evening is at leisure.

DAY 8 : Burlington - Lake Champlain - Lake Placid.

This morning we drive to the shores of Lake Champlain and board the ferry for the scenic crossing into the state of New York. Driving through the rugged foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, we reach the village of Lake Placid, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll along Mirror Lake, or visit the Olympic Skating Centre.

DAY 9 : Lake Placid - Saratoga - Albany.

This morning you can explore on your own, so why not indulge in some souvenir shopping on Main Street? An orientation tour shows off the Saratoga's charming downtown with its Victorian buildings and one-of-a-kind boutiques. Overnight near the historic capital of New York State, Albany.

DAY 10 : Albany - New York - UK.

The final leg of the journey takes you to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in New York.

DAY 11 : Home landing in the UK.

Note: Chosen departure dates are historically the best dates to see the autumn foliage - weather permitting.

Maximum elevation on this tour is 4,400 ft.
