Your Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - San Jose.
Fly to San Jose where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for two nights.
DAY 2: San Jose - Poas Volcano National Park - Doka Coffee Plantation - San Jose.
This morning, drive amongst lush coffee plantations and burgeoning flower farms to Poas Volcano National Park, a haven of exotic birds and rich tropical verdure. The Poas Volcano is one of the world's largest geysers (1.5 km wide) and you can marvel at its misty crater before taking a stroll through the emerald forest to a stunning tropical lagoon. Later, continue to the Doka Coffee Estate, located in the heart of Costa Rican coffee country. The estate was founded 70 years ago by the Vargas Ruiz family, pioneers in coffee growing. Learn about the coffee production process and the estate that has twice been awarded 'Best Coffee Farm in the World'. (B, L)
DAY 3: San Jose - Tortuguero National Park.
Travel to Tortuguero National Park and board a canal boat for a leisurely cruise along its beautiful waterways. Abundant in lush rainforest teeming with wildlife, Tortuguero, meaning 'turtle catcher', is located on the Caribbean Coast. After lunch, enjoy an included orientation tour of Tortuguero Village, which is surrounded by exotic gardens and nature trails, perfect for relaxing and observing the wildlife.
DAY 4: Tortuguero National Park.
Today explore the breathtaking canals and waterways of Tortuguero on an included canal boat ride. With fresh and salt water contributing to the wetlands, the biodiversity found here is amongst the most amazing and unique in the world. The stunning beaches, canals and lagoons are home to incredible wildlife including river and nesting sea turtles, Capuchin and Howler monkeys and a variety of colourful birds and fish. The rest of the day is at leisure. (B, L, D)
DAY 5: Tortuguero - La Fortuna.
Leave Tortuguero National Park via the canals this morning and drive along the beautiful Caribbean Coast and Northern lowlands towards the town of La Fortuna, situated in the Arenal Volcano area. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. (B, L)
DAY 6: La Fortuna - Arenal Volcano National Park - Titoku Hot Springs - La Fortuna.
This morning, explore the incredible Arenal Volcano National Park. Arenal is Costa Rica's most active volcano and, weather permitting, you may see trickles of steaming lava erupting from its picture perfect cone. In the late afternoon, continue to Titoku Hot Springs, where you can relax in the warm and soothing, thermo-mineral springs that flow amongst a paradise of tropical gardens to natural waterfalls. DAY 7: La Fortuna - Lake Arenal - Monteverde.
Begin with a drive to picturesque Lake Arenal - Costa Rica's largest lake. A small pontoon boat will take you on a relaxing journey across the lake towards the small town of Rio Chiquito (Monteverde area). Later, continue to Selvatura Park where you will walk on some of Costa Rica's finest treetop canopy walkways. Spanning almost three kilometres, the eight hanging suspension bridges reach 170 metres in length and hang 60 metres above the forest floor. At five feet in width, the Selvatura Bridges are the widest and strongest in Costa Rica. Experience local flora and fauna from a magnificent new perspective as you explore amongst the treetops. (B)
DAY 8: Monteverde Cloud Forest.
This morning, visit Monteverde Cloud Forest, one of the most famous conservation areas in Central America. Located on the Continental Divide, the Cloud Forest is one of the most ecologically unique areas in the world and is home to rare and unusual wildlife such as jaguars, pumas and over 450 species of birds. In the afternoon, visit El Trapiche, a traditional sugar mill and farm. Your guided tour includes interactive demonstrations of sugarcane and coffee production and the traditional cultivation of bananas, local legumes, avocado and macadamia nuts. (B)
DAY 9: Monteverde - Manuel Antonio National Park.
Journey along the Central Pacific coast towards one of the smallest yet most popular national parks in Costa Rica - Manuel Antonio National Park. Outside the park is a vibrant town with many bars and restaurants but the park itself provides a peaceful haven of rich rainforest with plenty of wildlife, and pristine beaches with cool palm-fringed canopies. (B)
DAY 10: Manuel Antonio National Park.
This morning, explore the luscious lowlands of Manuel Antonio National Park and follow some of the nature trails through the forest. Experience the intense beauty of the exotic vegetation, the gentle sea breeze, and perhaps catch a glimpse of some native creatures that share their natural habitat with the park. Search for Capuchin and Squirrel monkeys, sloths, coatis, agoutis, raccoons, colourful crabs and a myriad of exotic birds. Take a dip in the warm waters of the Pacific and in the afternoon enjoy Manuel Antonio at your leisure. (B)
DAY 11: Manuel Antonio National Park - Grecia - Sarchi - San Jose.
This morning, visit the town of Grecia and its gothic style church, constructed of metal pieces shipped from Northern Europe in the late 19th century. Afterwards, visit the small town of Sarchi, famous for producing colourful wooden ox-carts and other traditional Costa Rican woodcrafts. Overnight in San Jose, or extend your stay at your hotel. (B, D)
DAY 12: San Jose - UK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay in Manuel Antonio National Park. (B)
DAY 13: Home landing in the UK.
