Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Denver.

Fly to Denver where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for two nights.

DAY 2: Denver.

'The Mile High City' of Denver is the capital of Colorado and the gateway to the Rocky Mountains. An attractive city with broad streets, a tree-lined pedestrian mall leading to the gold-domed State Capitol, and Larimer Square in the city's historic heart. It's also home to some fine museums and galleries, many of which depict the western influence of the area. We offer a range of great-value optional tours, including city sightseeing and a visit to Buffalo Bill's grave.

DAY 3: Denver - Cheyenne - Black Hills of South Dakota - Keystone.

We travel north, first through Cheyenne, the state capital of Wyoming, known in the old days as 'hell on wheels'. Then it's on through the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota, immortalised in a famous song from the musical 'Calamity Jane', to the historic frontier town of Custer. Late this afternoon, we'll travel to see construction of the renowned Crazy Horse Memorial, a monumental statue carved out of a mountain. The monument pays respect to the great hero of the Native Americans, Chief Crazy Horse. Construction began in 1949 and continues today. Learn more about Chief Crazy Horse, the Native American tribes, and the ambitious artist and his family who are working to make this dream a reality.

DAY 4: Keystone - Mount Rushmore - Deadwood.

We drive deep into the Black Hills, through what was once Sioux Indian territory, to see the magnificent granite face of Mount Rushmore, a giant monument to four great American presidents - Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt. Afterwards visit Tatanka, 'The Story of the Bison', and experience the richness of the Lakota Indian life, as it was during the height of the Buffalo Culture around the 1840's. Next it's on to Deadwood, a lawless frontier town during the 1876 Gold Rush, where Jack McCall murdered Wild Bill Hickok during a poker game. Overnight in this historic town and walk in the footsteps of legends—like Calamity Jane and Seth Bullock—as you discover Deadwood’s Wild West ways. You may even want to try your luck in one of the historic gaming halls.

DAY 5: Deadwood - Sheridan. Little Bighorn Battlefield.

We head this morning through the rich high country where open-range cattle kings made war on the homesteaders in the 1890's. This afternoon we visit the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument which commemorates one of America's most significant and famous battles. Here on June 25 and 26, 1876, two divergent cultures clashed in a life or death struggle. During your time at the Battlefield, hear the story of the great war leader of the Sioux, Crazy Horse, and about the defeat of the US Seventh Cavalry by Lakota (Sioux), Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors. While standing in the midst of this beautiful and tranquil setting, learn the true story of "Custer's Last Stand" that has been immortalised in thousands of books, paintings and films. We overnight in the town of Sheridan located in the Bighorn Mountains.

DAY 6: Sheridan - Cody.

This morning, we arrive in Buffalos Bill's frontier town of Cody. During your free time here, we suggest a visit to the Buffalo Bill Historic Centre, home to five unique museums including the Whitney Gallery of Western Art, the Plains Indians Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, and the Buffalo Bill Museum telling the life and legend of this bigger-than-life character. Enjoy a stroll down Cody's main street with its unique shops and restaurants making sure to visit the historic Irma Hotel for a cold drink in the saloon.
