Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Oporto - Povoa de Varzim.

Fly to Oporto where you will be met by your representative and transferred to Povoa de Varzim and your hotel, Sao Felix, for five nights and a welcoming glass of local port wine. (D)

DAY 2: Barcelos - Ponte de Lima - Viana do Castelo.

Start early this morning for your journey to Barcelos and a visit to a fascinating traditional market in Campo da Republica central square. Enjoy a stroll amongst stalls brimming with a variety of regional products such as bread, smoked sausages, cheese, wine and embroidery. Later, continue to Ponte de Lima and a traditional Portuguese manor house set on the Vinho Verde wine farm. Indulge in a sparkling white wine tasting and sample a wine produced from some of the youngest white grapes of the Minho region along with appetisers of smoked ham and cheese. Before returning to your hotel, enjoy a short visit to Viana do Castelo and the Belvedere of Santa Luzia to admire the remarkable views over the city. (B, D)

DAY 3: Oporto.

Today, enjoy a full day to experience one of Portugal's most important cities: Oporto. Set on the banks of the Douro River, Portugal's second largest city is best known for its production of port wine and offers up a multitude of memorable sights. Begin your included tour with a short walk to the city's historical centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and explore the Riberia Quarter before continuing on a short cruise along the Douro River. End your day with a visit to a wine cellar in Vila Nova de Gaia. Learn about the famed port wine and its production from the grape to the glass before tasting some of the many different kinds and ages. (B, D)

DAY 4: Amarante - Douro Valley - Regua - Pinhão.

Start early this morning for your journey to Amarante, famed for its production of Portugal's popular pastries. Visit a local traditional pastry shop for a mid-morning coffee and pastry tasting. Later, continue to Regua, stopping en route in Mesao Frio to admire the stunning valley views. Reaching a quinta wine producing farm in Regua, enjoy a wine tasting before taking a leisurely cruise from Regua to Pinhão. (B, D)

DAY 5: Guimarães.

Enjoy a fascinating excursion to Guimarães, a city rich in history and once the capital of Portugal. Head to the Royal Palace dos Duques de Bragança and its traditional Minho house for an embroidery and pottery workshop. Learn about these centuries-old trades and their delicate production methods. This evening enjoy a special port wine themed farewell dinner at your hotel. The meal includes local appetisers and courses carefully selected to compliment the port wine. (B, D)

DAY 6: Povoa de Varzim - Oporto - UK.

Transfer to Oporto airport for your flight to the UK. (B)
