The exquisite beauty of medieval Italy unfurls before you on this marvellous tour of the historic, honey-coloured highlights of Tuscany and Umbria.
Your Itinerary
DAY 1: UK - Pisa - Montecatini.
Fly to Pisa where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Montecatini Terme. The rest of the day is free for you to get acquainted with this charming spa town. (D)
DAY 2: Montecatini - San Gimignano - Siena - Chianciano.
Today we drive into the heart of Tuscany. First stop is San Gimignano, a hilltop medieval town with more towers than churches, uniquely situated among vineyards, olive groves, and delightful countryside. Then Siena, without a doubt Tuscany's most beloved and inviting city. A walk through its narrow streets lined with medieval palaces into the Piazza del Campo, which is shaped like a fan, is truly a memorable experience. In the afternoon continue to the spa town Chianciano for the next five nights. (B, D)
DAY 3: Assisi - Lake Trasimeno.
This morning enjoy a day excursion, with local guide, to pink-stoned Assisi. The birthplace of St Francis, Assisi is home to a myriad of fine historic monuments, most notably the Basilica where the saint is buried, and which is best known for its exquisite frescoes by Giotto. On the way back to Chianciano, stop by Lake Trasimeno, one of Umbria's best loved beauty spots. (B, D)
DAY 4: Orvieto and Todi.
Another day sampling the delights of Umbria's rich cultural past, with a full day excursion to spectacular Orvieto, which sits astride a volcanic rock and is crowned by a magnificent Duomo, lavishly decorated with intricate mosaics, sculptures and frescoes. Later onto charming, medieval Todi. (B, D)
DAY 5: Arezzo.
Today a visit to one of Tuscany's jewels, the honey-coloured town of Arezzo, with its sloping Piazza Grande, fresco-painted church of San Francesco and 1st century Roman amphitheatre. (B, D)
DAY 6: Pienza - Montepulciano.
A chance to spend the morning relaxing and enjoying Chianciano's stylish shops, parks and spas. In the afternoon travel to Pienza, a fine Renaissance town known for its cathedral and stunning central Palazzo. From there to Montepulciano, a hilltop town famed for its ruby-red wine, where you can enjoy a tasting session and linger in its captivating main square to admire the Renaissance palaces and duomo. (B, D)
DAY 7: Chianciano - Florence - Pisa - Montecatini.
Journey to Florence, the capital city of Tuscany and 'Cradle of the Renaissance'. Traffic is banned in part of the historic centre, so visitors can wander at leisure. Then to Pisa to visit the famous Square of Miracles, dominated by the iconic 'Leaning Tower'. Continue to Montecatini and round off your tour in style with an optional dinner and evening out. (B)
DAY 8: Montecatini - Pisa - UK.
Transfer to the airport for your flight to the UK, or extend your stay on the Tuscan Riviera. (B)
