Your Itinerary

DAY 1: UK - Amman.

Fly to Amman where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel for four nights. (D)

DAY 2: Jerash - Ajloun - Um Qais.

With its sun-baked hilltop temples, Greco-Roman theatre and hypnotic colonnaded streets, Jerash is a well-preserved Roman city, buried for centuries under the timeless desert sands. Savour the beauty of this 'Pompeii of the Middle East' before journeying amongst lush pine forests and olive groves to the medieval hilltop fortress of Ajloun, a rich blend of Arab and Islamic architecture. Later, continue to the charming cultural centre of Um Qais, overlooking the Golan Heights and tranquil Sea of Galilee. Laden with Greco-Roman architecture, this fascinating Decapolis city, once named 'Gadara', is famed as the site of the 'miracle of the Gadarene swine'. (B, D)

DAY 3: Amman.

Set in a gloriously verdant valley on the ancient site of Roman Philadelphia, Amman is Jordan's bustling capital and a vibrant mix of ancient treasures and modern marvels. Today's included tour takes in the magnificent Roman Citadel, the Amphitheatre and the atmospheric souks before heading out to the splendid Desert Castles for fascinating examples of early Islamic art and architecture. Visit Qasr Kharaneh - one of the best preserved Umayyad castles, the UNESCO World Heritage listed Qasr Amra - renowned for its 8th century wall frescos and floor mosaics, and Qasr Azraq a black basalt castle used by Lawrence of Arabia as his headquarters during the Arab revolt. (B, D)

DAY 4: Madaba.

Follow the ancient route of the King's Highway to Madaba, the fascinating 'city of mosaics' and home to the incredible Madaba Map. Admire the beautiful, tiled mosaic of the Holy Land, dating back to 6th century, before visiting Mount Nebo, the revered holy site from which Moses first viewed the Holy Land and now said to be his burial place. Later, continue amidst the stunning landscapes of the Jordan Rift Valley to the remarkable Dead Sea, where you'll have a chance to 'float' on the world famous waters, abundantly rich in natural salts and minerals. (B, D)

DAY 5: Amman - Kerak - Petra.

Venture further along the King's Highway to Kerak and its magnificent Crusader citadel and fortress. After time to explore the labyrinthine stone corridors and cool vaulted quarters, continue to the spectacular Dana Nature Reserve, a tapestry of glorious natural panoramas ranging from lofty mountains, rich orchards and narrow gorges of rich red and gleaming white cliffs, to honey-hued sand dune deserts and forests of oak and juniper. Visit Dana Village and enjoy a fascinating lecture on the local landscape, plants and diverse wildlife before continuing to Petra for two nights. (B, D)

DAY 6: Petra.

One of the marvels of the ancient world, the spectacular 'Rose Red City' of Petra is an incredible 2,000-year-old Nabatean city carved into the rugged Sharah Mountains, now recognised as both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Experience the majesty of Petra as you enter via the narrow 'Siq', a winding and imposing chasm sliced between the surrounding cliffs, that opens to reveal Petra's breathtaking dusky pink Treasury, Monastery and incredible Roman-style theatre, each cut directly into the sandstone rock. (B, D)

DAY 7: Petra - Wadi Rum - Amman.

Travel to the spectacular, lunar-style Wadi Rum, a vast and timeless swathe of rocky desert and monolithic stone pillars sculpted over centuries by the desert winds. Experience an exhilarating Bedouin jeep ride across its incredible rocky landscape, featured in the epic film 'Lawrence of Arabia', marvel at the spectacular desertscape of mountains and dunes, and admire the centuries-old paintings daubed on the rocky outcrops, before returning to Amman for one night. (B, D)

DAY 8: Amman - Dead Sea.

Leave Amman and transfer to your hotel in the Dead Sea resort area for a 3 night stay. (B, D)
